Carlton Nyahunzvi, 26, and Tadiwanashe Mildred Maradzika, 26, never shared a home as a married couple. Carlton, who lives in the United Kingdom, says he was pushed into paying roora sooner than he had intended after Mildred told him she was expecting his child.
The couple's roora ceremony took place in Dangamvura, Mutare.
Carlton Questions the Medical Records
When Mildred later reported a mis*carriage, Carlton began probing the paperwork she submitted.

He reportedly requested a video recording of the medical procedure as confirmation, but was told recording was not permitted. His doubts deepened when he cross-checked details with the hospital where the mis*carriage was allegedly handled.
"The doctor they claim attended to them was not on duty that day," Carlton said. "He assisted them with fake documents to fool me, and that disappointed me."
He also alleged that Mildred's mother, Tapuwa Charity Dzinemarira, was involved in procuring those documents from a doctor who has since been named in the dispute but could not be reached for comment.
Carlton added: "I loved my wife, but she decided to enter the marriage with falsehood. That put me off after I discovered that she was not pregnant."
Following his decision to end the marriage, Carlton sent relatives to deliver a traditional divorce token to Mildred's family, who refused to accept it.
Her family then took her to Carlton's home village in Murehwa, where his parents declined to receive her. After two weeks, Mildred returned to Mutare and is currently staying with a relative.
Matter Heads to Chief Mutasa's Court
Carlton has since brought the dispute before Chief Mutasa's traditional court and plans to formally hand over the divorce token there.
The hearing has been postponed several times but is expected to proceed imminently. Mildred's mother, Charity, confirmed the dispute but rejected her son-in-law's account.
"My daughter lost her baby, and Carlton suspected that she was not pregnant," she said, describing his allegations as unfounded. She also called on Carlton to appear in court personally rather than sending his brothers to represent him.
"Carlton must attend the court and not be represented by his brothers in a matter directly involving him, considering that he paid lobola," Charity said. "My daughter was humiliated when we took her to Murehwa."
Mildred could not be reached for comment. The doctor named in the matter was also unavailable at the time of publication. H-Metro is in possession of the medical records that Carlton alleges are fraudulent.
