BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran said on Monday that the ties between the Union and Tamil Nadu governments have been cordial.
When asked about his presence on the dais along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to Chennai on Sunday, even though he was not an elected representative or holding any official position during a press conference here, he said: “I cannot comment on that. Any VIP, who has been invited, could go.”
On Centre-State ties, Mr. Nagenthran recalled that Mr. Modi held the hands of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and both of them jointly inaugurated various projects. The demands made by Mr. Vijay was also those of the BJP in the State, he added.
When pointed out the Chief Minister visited the airport to welcome the Prime Minister, Mr. Nagenthran said Mr. Vijay had followed the tradition. When queried about a shawl the BJP leader presented to Mr. Vijay, he appealed against belittling the gesture.
Mr. Nagenthran added that the law and order situation was not good in the State and urged the Chief Minister to focus on addressing that.
