Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has congratulated the newly elected leader of the Galmudug state, Liban Ahmed Hasan, and his deputy, Abdiweli Ibrahim Garyare.

The two officials were elected on Thursday by members of the Galmudug State Assembly in the regional capital, Dhusamareb.
President Hassan Sheikh congratulated the new leadership on winning the confidence of the assembly members and urged them to make security a priority.
He also called on the new administration to work towards resolving internal conflicts, strengthening social cohesion and improving infrastructure and public services.
The president described the election of the new leadership as historic, saying hundreds of thousands of people across Galmudug’s major towns and rural areas had taken part in the process.
He said the participation demonstrated the role citizens play in Somalia’s democratisation and state-building efforts.
President Hassan Sheikh prayed for God to assist the newly elected leader and his deputy in carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them.
He said he hoped the new administration would fulfil the aspirations of the people of Galmudug for peace, effective government and development.
