Bungie is not finished with Destiny. Just recently, an official tease hinted at a brand-new release. Specifically, PC players might finally get their hands on a Destiny 1 remaster and PC port.

Honestly pretty blown away by it, looks even better than I hoped it would.

A Tumultuous Year for Destiny
The popular looter-shooter recently experienced a highly chaotic year. First, the 2025 ‘Ash and Iron’ update received a middling reception. Next, the ‘Renegades’ expansion completely failed to retain players. Consequently, Bungie intended the ‘Monument of Triumph’ update to be the franchise’s final release.
However, fans fought back aggressively. In September, players flooded Sony’s State of Play with Destiny 3 demands. They also organized a general boycott over the company’s digital-only decisions. Furthermore, fans arranged two massive server slams for Destiny 2 on Steam. They wanted to boost player numbers and force executives to pay attention. Ultimately, this intense community pressure worked.
The Official Destiny 1 Remaster & PC Port Tease
Recently, a fan posted a video on YouTube showing Destiny 1 running on PC at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. In a surprising move, Josh Deane, Bungie’s Head of Product and General Manager of Marathon, replied to a post regarding this video on X (Twitter). He stated:
Seems like a pretty game, wonder if it will do well…
He then followed this comment with a popcorn GIF.
Because Deane openly wonders if the game will do well, this project seems far more tangible than a simple theoretical idea. Fans have begged for a Destiny 1 PC port for years. Now, this deliberate tweet sets incredibly high expectations for an active incubation project at the studio.
Rebuilding Player Trust
Bungie desperately wants to repair its fractured relationship with the community. In late September, the studio announced a massive change. They will unvault all Destiny 2 content and release it back into the game for free.
Both Deane and Studio Head Poria Torkan admitted they ignored fans and disappointed the community. Therefore, they have established a concrete plan to revitalize the IP. They want to rebuild trust before creating brand-new Destiny games. Releasing a fully functional Destiny 1 PC port perfectly aligns with this goal.
As proof of this new commitment, Destiny 2 received a fresh backend update with patch notes just last week. Finally, the official Bungie Store will shut down on October 19. The company plans to launch a brand-new home for merchandise. Consequently, fans hope this change will finally fix the high shipping costs and long handling times for physical goods.
