The National Foundation of Museums (FNM) is seeking a contractor to carry out refurbishment and repair work at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat. The client’s estimate for the contract is 1,321,254 dirhams including tax, and bids will be opened on 28 October 2026 at the foundation’s headquarters.
The work is intended mainly to preserve the building and improve its operating conditions. It covers waterproofing and treatment of leaks, drainage and protection against rising damp and water infiltration, and the renewal of terrace waterproofing, along with the restoration of exterior surfaces.
The contract also includes plumbing and fire protection, joinery and metalwork, and painting and other complementary tasks. All works must be completed within three months of the start date set by the order to commence.
The museum was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI on 7 October 2014. The foundation presents it as the kingdom’s first museum institution devoted entirely to modern and contemporary art, designed to international museum standards. Located in the heart of Rabat, it has become a reference space for conserving, showcasing and disseminating Moroccan and international modern and contemporary work.
Its galleries have hosted exhibitions on Picasso, Goya, Giacometti, César and Delacroix, as well as Moroccan figures such as Ahmed Cherkaoui, Jilali Gharbaoui, Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Melehi and Chaïbia Talal. Its collection includes more than 500 paintings and about ten sculptures, built up through acquisitions, donations and long-term loans.
In 2026 the museum hosted Younes Rahmoun’s “Habba-Chajara-Zahra” exhibition and is currently showing a Mohamed Melehi retrospective. The new operation follows the foundation’s efforts, a stated priority since its creation to preserve, modernize and enhance national museum infrastructure.
