Sarawak issues three Forest Carbon Licences covering 56,806 hectares and eight Carbon Study Permits spanning 179,327 hectares for carbon projects
KUCHING: Sarawak has issued three Forest Carbon Licences covering a total area of 56,806 hectares, the state legislative assembly was told today.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said one of the licences was undergoing validation by an internationally recognised carbon validation and verification body, while the other two had recently been approved.
“Meanwhile, eight Carbon Study Permits have been issued, covering a total area of 179,327 hectares.
“These permits allow holders to conduct studies and prepare a Sarawak Project Design Document (SPDD), which is one of the requirements for obtaining a Forest Carbon Licence,” he said when replying to a question from Dr Simon Sinang Bada (GPS-Tebedu).
Len Talif said that under the Forests (Forest Carbon Activity) Rules 2022, carbon credit trading could only be carried out after a Forest Carbon Licence had been obtained.
