The Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), led by its Chairman, John Asiedu Nketiah, has inspected ongoing infrastructure works at the Port of Tema to assess their progress and impact on port operations.
The inspection covered recently completed dredging works and the rehabilitation of the port’s breakwaters, projects expected to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the port’s capacity to accommodate larger vessels.
Under the dredging project, selected berths have been deepened from 11 metres to 14 metres, allowing bigger vessels to berth at the port.
The Board received a briefing on the scope and progress of the projects from GPHA’s General Manager of Engineering, Ing. Komla Ofori.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed satisfaction with the completed dredging works and the progress of the breakwater rehabilitation, particularly the advanced technology being deployed.
He said the breakwater project remained on schedule and was expected to be completed and handed over within a month.
The Director-General of GPHA, Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, said he was optimistic that completing the projects would boost the Authority’s operational and commercial prospects by enabling larger vessels to berth safely at the Port of Tema.
The breakwater rehabilitation works are being undertaken by GYTD Group Limited.
