According to Spanish television channel Telecinco, the intruders arrived at approximately 10 p.m. local time, armed and wearing gloves. Rico, Silva, her mother, and the couple's two young children, two-year-old Carla and three-month-old Sergio, were seated for dinner when the break-in occurred, Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported.
Family cornered after fleeing to another room
The family attempted to seek shelter in a separate room, but the intruders broke down the door and physically assaulted both Rico and Silva before making off with jewellery, watches, and other valuables, according to local outlet ABC. Rico later spoke to Telecinco, disputing some of the more extreme accounts of violence reported in the press.
Sources close to the former Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham player indicated to Telecinco that the attack appeared to be an organised robbery rather than a random break-in. Silva, who wed Rico in June 2022, confirmed to the channel's Vamos a ver programme that the matter had been reported to police.
Silva addresses followers after the ordeal
The day after the incident, Silva posted to her Instagram Stories to address her 255,000 followers directly.
"I'm still in shock after last night; I have no words," she wrote in Spanish.
"But the only thing that truly matters is that, thank God, our family is safe. Thank you all for your concern."
This is not the first time a Rico property has been targeted. In January 2021, while he was at a league match playing for PSG, burglars ransacked his home in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris, stealing approximately €25,000 in cash along with luxury watches and jewellery, according to Le Parisien.
Rico, who earned his only cap for the Spanish national team in 2016, also endured a serious horseback riding accident in Huelva in May 2023 that left him in a coma for three weeks. He was discharged from the hospital in August 2023, nearly three months after the incident, as reported by The New York Times. The Guardia Civil had not responded to media requests for comment at the time of reporting.
