British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Monday that a suspected plot against RAF Fairford air base was highly likely to have been coordinated from Iran, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) almost certainly directing the operation.
The incident dates back to the early hours of September 27, when British police arrested five men in their 20s near the air base on suspicion of terrorism-related and explosives offences.
The suspects were subsequently released on police bail without being charged, subject to strict conditions. Authorities said they were examining the possibility of foreign state involvement in the suspected plot.
Separately, the United Kingdom has introduced two additional designations under its Iran sanctions regime, broadening its latest measures against individuals and entities allegedly linked to Iran.
The expanded sanctions package includes an Iranian national accused of involvement in hostile activities abroad connected to the Iranian state.
