LeBron James has come to Philly bearing gifts ahead of spooky season.

The NBA star released the book on July 21 after previously making the announcement about the project on October 30, 2025. The story is about a kindergartner named Zara and her friends Remy and Cyrus who attend a Halloween party that was created by older children. The book touches on themes of teamwork and belief as they lean on the older kids for help.
The book is personal to the NBA superstar who noted that the holiday is his favorite.
“Since I was little, Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, so I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time,” he said in a HarperCollins statement. “I’m excited to bring that joy and genuine love for all things Halloween into this story for young kids to connect with — and even learn an important lesson through this spooky, fun time of year.”
Happy Spooky Halloween is James’ fourth children’s book release following “I Promise” (2020), “We Are Family” (2023) and “I Am More Than” (2024).
James will make his regular-season debut with the 76ers against the reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks on Oct. 20. This will mark the former Los Angeles Laker’s 24th season in the league. He was previously at the Lakers for eight seasons. James shared his reasoning behind leaving California to go across the coast to play for the 76ers.
“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family,” he wrote on X back in July. “What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” LeBron said on X back in July after formerly committing to the 76ers. “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”
