Faith No More are finally coming back to Portugal – 17 years after their last concert in the country.
The influential American rock band has been confirmed for NOS Alive on July 9, 2027, when Mike Patton and company will take to the main NOS Stage at the Passeio Marítimo de Algés near Lisbon.
They are the first act announced for the second day of next year’s festival, which runs from July 8 to 10.
Faith No More last performed in Portugal in July 2010, also at NOS Alive – then known as Optimus Alive – when they headlined the opening night in front of around 38,000 festivalgoers.
Two attempted reunions with their Portuguese audience have fallen through since then.
The band was originally booked for NOS Alive in 2020, only for the festival to be cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their appearance was later rescheduled for 2022, but Faith No More cancelled their European tour after Patton had previously stepped away from touring for mental health reasons.
The 2027 appearance therefore promises to be something of a long-delayed reunion.
Back on stage after more than a decade
It is not only Portugal that has been waiting for the band’s return.
Faith No More played their last live shows in 2016, meaning the newly announced dates will also mark the band’s return to the stage after more than a decade. Earlier this year, the group confirmed plans for new international concerts in 2027.
Formed in San Francisco, Faith No More became one of the more distinctive rock bands to emerge from the late 1980s and 1990s, mixing heavy rock and metal with funk, alternative music and more experimental influences.
Their breakthrough came with “The Real Thing” in 1989, the first Faith No More album to feature Patton on vocals and home to perhaps their best-known song, “Epic”.
They pushed their sound further with 1992’s “Angel Dust”, which included “Midlife Crisis” and “A Small Victory”, while later releases produced favourites such as “Ashes to Ashes”.
The band initially split in 1998 before reuniting in 2009. Their most recent studio album, “Sol Invictus”, was released in 2015 after an 18-year gap between records.
Alongside Patton, the current line-up features Billy Gould on bass, Mike Bordin on drums, Roddy Bottum on keyboards and Jon Hudson on guitar.
NOS Alive 2027 taking shape
Faith No More join an increasingly strong NOS Alive 2027 line-up.
The Strokes, The Neighbourhood and Beirut are already confirmed for July 8, while Tame Impala, sombr and Myles Smith will perform on July 10.
Tickets are already on sale, with daily tickets priced at €89, two-day passes costing €178 and three-day passes €210.
