Police and security forces have launched a search for a 54-year-old special police officer (SPO) who went missing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district while returning home from a police post with his weapon, officials said.
The officer, Bashir Ahmed, was carrying a self-loading rifle (SLR) and a magazine, according to the latest information. While a terror angle has not been completely ruled out, there is so far no evidence to suggest one, officials said.
Senior police officers have inspected the area to assess the situation and oversee the search for Ahmed, whose family alerted the police after he failed to return to his village.
Ahmed had left the police post early on Wednesday for his home in Trigham village. He was reported missing after he did not reach home, officials told news agency PTI.
He had his weapon with him at the time of his disappearance. Police and security forces treated the matter seriously and began searching the area for him.
The search for Ahmed remains under the supervision of senior police officers who visited the area to assess the circumstances and monitor the operation.
