A fresh killing in Kyenda Town Council has heightened fear in Mubende’s Buwekula South as security teams intensify investigations into a series of attacks that have left four people dead and five others critically injured, according to local reports.
Fear has intensified in Mubende District after a man was reportedly killed in a fresh overnight attack in Kyenda Town Council, even as security teams deployed to Buwekula South to investigate a series of deadly assaults.
The latest incident was reported in Kyenda, about seven kilometres from Kirangwa Village, where suspected assailants allegedly killed a man identified as Sharif Lubwama, 30, bringing the reported victims from the attacks to four.
The killings have prompted the government to deploy additional security personnel and investigators to the affected communities as the manhunt for those responsible continues.
Earlier, security officials at Mubende Central Police Station held a meeting to discuss measures to strengthen security in Buwekula South Constituency, where four people have reportedly been killed in separate attacks.
The victims are said to have been struck on the head with blunt objects, while five other people remain bedridden in critical condition.
Mubende Resident District Commissioner Beatrice Katsigazi confirmed the government’s intervention, saying security agencies were working to restore calm and bring those responsible to justice.
“We are aware of the security situation in Buwekula South, and the government has intervened. We have deployed additional personnel and experts to support investigations and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. Some of the measures are operational and cannot be disclosed publicly, but we are committed to restoring security in the affected communities,” Katsigazi said.
Shortly afterwards, several security vehicles carrying personnel were seen heading towards Kiteenga Sub-county, where earlier killings had been reported.
The officers established a base at Kiteenga Sub-county Police Station, arriving with equipment and supplies in what appeared to be preparations for an extended operation.
The deployment offered some reassurance to residents who said they had been living in fear and were uncertain who might be targeted next.
“We have been living in fear because we do not know who will be attacked next. Seeing security personnel deployed here gives us some hope that we may finally get protection and return to our normal lives,” said Denis Barac, a resident.
Other residents said fear of further attacks had forced some people to spend nights away from their homes.
“The situation has been frightening. Some people are afraid to sleep in their own homes because they fear that the attackers could strike at any time. We appeal to the security agencies to remain here and protect us,” one resident said.
Residents welcomed the deployment but urged security agencies to maintain their presence until the threat was contained, saying families needed to feel safe enough to return to their homes.
While reporting from Kiteenga, news of another killing emerged from Kyenda Town Council.
At the scene, residents were mourning Lubwama, who was reportedly found dead behind a mosque after spending his final hours at a bar. The circumstances surrounding his death had not been established by the time of reporting.
Phionah Batamuliza, the deceased’s mother, said the latest incident had deepened anxiety in the community.
“We are deeply saddened by what has happened. Losing another person has increased our fear because we do not know who might be targeted next. We appeal to the authorities to investigate this killing and protect the people in our community,” she said.
Sserugo Vincent, the Kirangwa LCII chairperson, said local leaders were concerned about the continued loss of lives and called on security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
“As local leaders, we are very concerned about the continued loss of lives in our community. Residents are frightened, and we need security agencies to establish what is happening, identify the people behind these attacks and bring them to justice,” Sserugo said.
Local leaders have also appealed for increased security deployment and urged anyone with credible information about the attacks to report it to the relevant authorities.
Buwekula South Constituency comprises three sub-counties and one town council. The reported attacks have occurred in Kiteenga Sub-county and Kyenda Town Council.
As investigations continue, residents are calling for sustained security operations and swift action to identify those responsible for the killings and restore normal life in the affected communities.
