A custom-built Rolls-Royce Phantom worth an estimated KSh 72 million has touched down in Harare, Zimbabwe, roughly two weeks after the burial of the man who ordered it, late businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

According to Humanitarian Post, the vehicle had been in transit internationally when Chivayo died, with clearance procedures completed only after his passing.
The Phantom had been ordered well before his death and built entirely to his personal specifications, featuring bespoke bodywork and a tailored interior that reflected his famously lavish tastes.
Chivayo, who was widely recognised across southern Africa for his extravagant lifestyle, died in a helicopter crash alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke.

His funeral itself became a spectacle, drawing crowds and a procession of high-end vehicles that underscored the kind of life he had lived publicly.
The businessman was no stranger to luxury acquisitions. His social media presence was regularly filled with glimpses of prized vehicles from marques such as Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz, and he was equally known for gifting cars and cash to musicians, religious figures and other prominent personalities.
The custom Phantom had been expected to join that already impressive collection.
Instead, the vehicle arrived at an estate rather than an owner. With Chivayo no longer alive to take possession of the car he designed, it is expected to fall under the management of his estate going forward.
Beyond his taste for the finer things, Chivayo remained a polarising figure throughout his life. His government contracts, business dealings and close political connections drew consistent public scrutiny, even as his generosity kept him popular in certain circles.
The arrival of the Phantom adds a striking postscript to his story, a final luxury acquisition completing its journey to Zimbabwe long after the man behind it was laid to rest.
