Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown clearly has a lot of faith in wide receiver Chas Nimrod. They teamed up for a good bit of success last season at South Florida, after all.
That trust paid off in the second quarter Saturday in Athens, where the 6-foot-2 receiver brought down what might just be the catch of the year — against top-ranked Georgia, no less.
With the Tigers gaining momentum and only down one score after facing a 14-0 deficit in the first quarter, Brown lofted a fade to Nimrod. He was covered tightly by Bulldogs cornerback Demello Jones, who, according to Pro Football Focus, hadn’t allowed a touchdown this season.
That changed on this play, as Nimrod adjusted to the ball, extended his left arm around the body of Jones and used his hand — and the back of the DB — to begin reeling in the 9-yard TD pass.

That maneuver ultimately allowed Nimrod to secure the scoring grab and tie the game 14-14. It also quieted Sanford Stadium.
Auburn then blocked a Georgia field goal, made one of its own and intercepted Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton to take a 17-14 advantage into the break.
