The Operator, confirmed the grid disturbance which occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m on monday, said that working in conjunction with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), initiated emergency corrective measures to prevent a total collapse of the power infrastructure.
In a statement released on Monday, NISO confirmed that recovery efforts were completed swiftly, bringing the grid back to steady-state operations.
Clarifying the extent of the disruption, the agency emphasized that the incident was restricted to a specific section of the transmission network, debunking reports of a widespread national blackout circulating across social media platforms.
“The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) wishes to inform the public that at approximately 12:40 hours on Monday, 19 October 2026, the national grid experienced
multiple trippings on the 330kV transmission network.
“Following the incident, NISO, working with TCN, immediately implemented appropriate corrective measures to stabilise the power system and restore normal operations. Restoration efforts have been successfully completed, and the national grid has returned to normal operation.
“NISO wishes to clarify that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports and claims currently circulating in the media.
“The public is therefore advised to disregard misleading information and rely on official NISO communication channels for accurate and verified updates on the status of the national grid,” the operator noted.
NISO reaffirmed its commitment to reinforcing grid stability, safeguarding critical transmission infrastructure, and maintaining operational transparency across the country’s electricity supply value chain.
