Kathmandu, October 12
Udaya Shumsher Rana, who won the general secretary post at the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention, has said the party must now unite and focus on the upcoming local elections.
Thanking the convention delegates, active members, well-wishers and journalists who helped make the convention a success, Rana said the convention election was not only a process of choosing leadership but also an opportunity to set new policies and programmes and take the party forward.
He said the convention contest should be seen as an internal and friendly competition. Although those elected have received greater responsibility, he said, this should not be understood as one person’s win and another’s loss.
He said the party must be united by bringing along even those leaders who received fewer votes in the election.
Rana said the Congress will move forward by bringing policies and programmes that reach the people, in line with the mandate for transformation given by the special convention.
He also said that most of the members who were active members at the 14th General Convention took part in the 15th, and that the new leadership will try to bring along even those leaders who could not participate in the convention.
Pradip Paudel and Dila Sangraula were also elected general secretaries, along with Rana.
