Greek shipowners have placed new orders for 12 tankers at China’s Hengli Heavy Industries, including six VLCCs, two Suezmaxes and four LR2s.
George Prokopiou’s Dynacom Tankers Management is among the buyers. Dynacom’s cooperation with Hengli already exceeds 50 vessels.
The six VLCCs alone are valued at approximately $840 million, or about $140 million each. The total cost of the order is higher, as prices for the other six ships have not been disclosed.
Over the past three years, Hengli has secured orders for 177 ships from Greek interests worth around $10.2 billion. Clients include Dynacom, Capital, Evalend, Thenamaris and Eurobulk. The yard currently holds a backlog of 69 VLCCs, ranking it first globally in that category.
The orders come amid high tanker freight rates. Greek owners are seeking modern tonnage while managing the risk of future overcapacity.
