KARACHI: Advocate Jibran Nasir, counsel for the family of Mir Raza Ali, has called for the formation of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising federal and provincial officials to reinvestigate the case, citing concerns over the impartiality of the ongoing investigation.
In a letter addressed to the Sindh chief minister and chief secretary, Jibran Nasir urged the provincial government to constitute a team of officers who had not previously been associated with the case to ensure an independent and impartial investigation.
The lawyer also called for the complete inquiry commission report, including its findings and recommendations, to be provided to the deceased’s family without censorship or alteration.
According to the family’s legal representative, proceedings before the commission have raised concerns about the handling of evidence and the conduct of the police investigation. Nasir has alleged that certain police officers mishandled or concealed evidence and expressed apprehensions that the investigation was being directed towards a conclusion of suicide.
These allegations have not been independently established.
The family has argued that officers whose conduct is under scrutiny should not remain responsible for investigating the same case. It has called for departmental accountability and an independent review of the evidence collected so far.
Nasir has proposed including officials from relevant federal agencies, alongside provincial officers who have had no previous involvement in the case. The objective, according to the family’s position, is to examine all aspects of Mir Raza Ali’s death without presuming a particular conclusion.
