Mr. Platinum celebrates release of ‘Buttercup 26’

Mr. Platinum has brought a deeply personal story to a universal celebration of love with “Buttercup 26,” his new reggae release featuring Shanead Sims and Brawvo X. Released as a single and album on Sept. 26, the project carries the “feel-good spirit of its central message, ‘It’s simple — Is Love alone,’ while honoring the influence of his father, Saint Lucian cultural music icon Hubert Breeze’ Fevrier,” according to Caribbean entertainment publicist Flair Lindsey of Acclaim PR.  She told Caribbean Life on Tuesday, Sept. 5, that “Buttercup 26” is already making a splash on Caribbean and US radio stations, with airplay from DJ Supa Neil on KTSU 90.9 FM The Vibe in Houston, Tx and a premiere by Coco Filipina, a prominent media personality, radio DJ, and music tastemaker, on “The Culture” on Hot 97.9 FM in the Carolinas.  “That early exposure introduces listeners to a record whose romantic warmth also embraces love for family, heritage and the music itself,” Lindsey said. Mr. Platinum said while “Buttercup 26” came from his own journey, “the feeling belongs to everybody. “If you hear the song, and it makes you think about something or someone you truly love, then it did what it was supposed to do,” he said.  Lindsey said that behind the title is a tribute that reaches beyond the release year.  She said Breeze’s birthday is June 26, “making June 26, 2026, a meaningful 06-26-26 for father and son.” As his father’s health declined, Lindsey said Mr. Platinum sought “a lasting way to preserve his presence within the record.  “The number became a permanent connection to the man whose guidance helped shape his musical identity,” she said.  “When you see Buttercup 26, I want that number to always carry a piece of Hubert ‘Breeze’ Fevrier with it,” Mr. Platinum said. “Yes, the record arrived in 2026, but 26 is bigger than the year. It’s his day. It’s his footprint. It’s part of the legacy.”  Born Thomas Fevrier, Mr. Platinum said he grew up within a family deeply connected to Saint Lucian music and culture.  He said his father founded and led Rebel Rockers, giving him an early foundation in music, storytelling and artistic standards.  Mr. Platinum said Breeze also encouraged him to develop his own sound, a lesson Mr. Platinum carries into the reggae melodies and messages that speak most directly to him.  He said the consciousness and identity in the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh further informed that connection during his formative years.  “My father taught me to find my own sound, find my own lane, and be the absolute best I can be while doing it,” Mr. Platinum said. “So, for me, continuing his legacy means taking what was given to me, making it my own, and passing it forward.” Lindsey said that continuity is also reflected in the “TI KWA” video, “which brings Breeze’s music to new audiences and depicts a symbolic passing of the torch to Mr. Platinum.  “Its creation connects three generations: Breeze at the center, his son helping bring the visual to life, and his grandson Yondre of Louis Lane Creative contributing to its production,” Lindsey said. “’Buttercup 26’ carries that family connection into Mr. Platinum’s own musical chapter. “The new record retains some verses and elements of the original ‘Buttercup,’ but its purpose evolved as Breeze’s health declined,” she added. Mr. Platinum described a song that became “warmer, more loving and more universal, with new voices and energy supporting its storytelling.” “That transformation led him to present ‘Buttercup 26’ as a new single with its own identity,” said Lindsey, adding that “Buttercup 26” draws on “family heritage and an artistic connection formed in Houston.” Lindsey said Brawvo X, Mr. Platinum’s cousin and the son of former Saint Lucian Cultural Queen Phyllis Roma Wilson, shares his Saint Lucian roots while pursuing a distinct musical path.  She said Shanead Sims, who joined creative forces with Mr. Platinum in Houston, lends her vocal artistry to “Buttercup 26,” “helping transform his personal reflections into a shared expression of love.”  For Mr. Platinum, Lindsey said the lasting appeal of “Buttercup 26” lies in its ability to “connect his personal journey with the everyday experiences of its listeners — from the joy of falling in love to the sacrifices made for family and the memories that keep loved ones close.  “Its warm reggae melodies carry a message that reaches beyond romance, embracing the love of music, community and home that continues to shape his artistry,” she said.  “Love for the music. Love for the people. Love for where I come from. Love for the journey,” Mr. Platinum said. “When you strip everything else away, that’s what remains. It’s love alone.”
