After a 5-0 start, the Vikings are ideal candidates to be buyers before this year’s NFL trade deadline. Running back appears to be a position they could upgrade at, but there are other holes on the roster. Here are some targets they could pursue before the Nov. 10 deadline.
Tony Pollard, RB (Titans)
There are numerous veteran running backs Minnesota could look at, and Pollard should be near the top of the list. The Titans are clearly among the worst teams in the league, and Pollard still has some tread left on his tires. He has totaled 68 carries for 273 yards and one touchdown through five games, and he’s playing on the last year of his current contract. A fifth- or sixth-round pick in exchange for Pollard could be exactly what the Vikings need to spark their run game.
Budda Baker, S (Cardinals)
If the Vikings want to make a splash move, Baker might be the perfect target. Josh Metellus and Theo Jackson are a formidable duo, and Harrison Smith looks like a 37-year-old safety. If there’s a position that Minnesota could upgrade defensively, it’s safety.
The Cardinals are in a rebuild, and Baker is still producing at a high level with 36 total tackles through five games. He’s 30 years old, and his current three-year, $54 million contract runs through 2027. A deal would likely cost the Vikings at least a day-two draft pick, and possibly more, but it could be worth it.
Walker Little, OL (Jaguars)
With Donovan Jackson out for the season, Minnesota could improve its depth along the offensive line. Little has played nearly 3,000 offensive snaps in his NFL career, and he has the versatility to play multiple positions. He has been in and out of Jacksonville’s starting unit this season as a swing option, so the Jaguars might be willing to part ways with him. Depending on how much draft compensation the Jaguars would want, Little makes a lot of sense as a target for the Vikings.
Dallas Goedert, TE (Eagles)
T.J. Hockenson has been great for the Vikings this season, but a season-ending injury to Josh Oliver severely hurt their depth at tight end. Goedert is a recognizable name, and he’s known as a receiving threat, but he has been an underrated run blocker for his entire career. He’s on an expiring contract, and injuries have been piling up for Philadelphia all season. If the Eagles opt to move on from some of their veterans, trading Goedert to the Vikings could make sense for both sides.
