The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has clarified that government suppliers can submit valid tax invoices generated through either eTIMS or TIMS under the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
In a public notice obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, October 15, the tax agency explained that the arrangement was developed alongside the National Treasury to accommodate invoices from both systems.
“The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in collaboration with the National Treasury, wishes to clarify that the integration between the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) supports the validation of tax invoices generated through both the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and the Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS),” the notice stated.
The announcement provided updated guidance amid questions from businesses supplying goods and services to public institutions as they seek payment through government financial processes.

In August, KRA announced that eTIMS had been integrated with IFMIS and directed suppliers to generate valid invoices for goods and services provided to government entities.
The integrated system was introduced to improve the verification of tax invoices and strengthen accountability in transactions involving public funds.
In addition, the arrangement seeks to ensure tax compliance by enabling automated checks on invoices submitted by government suppliers.
At the time, businesses were also instructed to ensure that invoice details matched the records generated and stored in eTIMS to avoid discrepancies during payment processing.
The latest notice makes it clear that valid TIMS invoices are also accepted, a detail that was not explicitly mentioned in the earlier announcement.
KRA noted that invoices from either platform must meet the required validation standards before they can proceed to the payment stage in IFMIS.
The authority added that it would continue working with Treasury to assist government agencies and businesses with the implementation and use of the platform.
Suppliers seeking assistance with invoice validation or the integrated system can contact KRA’s contact centre phone numbers or email address.
