Munich is red. Always has been, and it was proven yet again.
Bayern Munich’s second team pulled off a 4-2 win against city rivals 1860 Munich in the first Munich derby since 2021. The game was played at the Grünwalder Stadion, home of 1860.
The Regionalliga side of Bayern did not take long to assert themselves. Tim Binder, who had already played a few games in preseason for the senior team, assisted captain Anton Heinz 12 minutes in, and he himself scored the second 11 minutes later following a mazy run. It was a goal that was reminiscent of Arjen Robben.
1860 pulled a goal back just around the half-hour mark, but Bayern restored their two-goal advantage when Heinz let loose quite the left footed shot from well outside the penalty area. The teams entered halftime with the Reds 3-1 up.
The home side also struck after the restart via a deflection. However, the game was halted for a few minutes immediately after due to pyrotechnics from the Bayern fans. Things also took a sour turn when Bayern coach Dante was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. According to Bild, it was allegedly because he had thrown an extra ball onto the pitch on purpose.
Bayern were not deterred, though, as Artur Degraf restored the cushion once more with a turning shot from close range. The game ended that way, with little further threat from the home side.
A few Bayern seniors players were spotted at the game. Aleksandar Pavlović and Tom Bischof from the men’s team were present, as were the women’s team’s Austrian trio of Sarah Zadrazil, Katharina Naschenweng, and Barbara Dunst.
One damper on the result remains, though. Because of the pyrotechnics, Bayern could face a hefty fine and a potential points deduction, which they had already faced twice in the past two seasons.
