MELAKA: State police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar has warned election candidates, political parties and their supporters not to violate any law during the campaigning period.
"We are everywhere. We will watch your every move... we will see it and we will know (what you do).
"Besides CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras, we have drones. So, you will not get away with anything. Be careful.
"Don't come begging for help after you've been detained," he said during a briefing on the 16th Melaka election at the state police headquarters.
He said police would ensure that security and public order are maintained throughout the election period.
Dzulkhairi reminded all parties to avoid provocations, threats, slander, and the 3R issues of race, religion and royalty, which could trigger tensions within society.
He said political differences should be handled maturely, while any disputes should be resolved through legitimate channels without resorting to emotionally-driven actions.
"What is important is to avoid raising 3R issues and spreading slander. These matters must be handled carefully to prevent public anxiety.
"Our focus is on maintaining public order and safety. Issues involving 3R and related matters will be referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for investigation," he said.
He said the briefing was held to explain to political party representatives what they can and cannot do in the lead-up to and throughout the state election.
He said some 140 political party representatives from across Melaka, along with representatives from relevant agencies, attended the briefing.
In addition to police, representatives from MCMC and the Election Commission were also invited to provide explanations within their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Dzulkhairi advised all parties to act responsibly when using social media, particularly by verifying the accuracy of information before sharing it, to prevent the spread of fake news and content that could trigger tensions.
He also urged all campaign activity organisers to pay attention to safety, the suitability of venues and traffic flow, and to consult the relevant authorities on related requirements.
