Flower show with a floral replica of Vidhana Soudha at its centrepiece focusing on the democratic rights of voters and constitution elements, was a crowd puller at Kuppanna Park in Mysuru on Sunday.
The Dasara Flower show was inaugurated by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar after the traditional start of Mysuru Dasara atop Chamundi Hills.
People made a beeline to Kuppanna Park to see the flower arrangements especially inside the Glass House. The organisers had used red and golden yellow colour flowers to make the replica of Vidhana Soudha. The structure measured about 57 feet wide and 31 feet in height. Around 2 lakh red rose, 4,000 kg chrysanthemum flowers have been used, according to officials.
A replica of the national emblem and constitution was also displayed inside the Glass House.
In order to convey strong message about voting, many floral arrangements had been erected. Compulsory voting, fist time voters, accessible voting, ballot, EVM, control unit, polling booth, secret ballot were featured in many places inside Kuppanna Park.
Display of varieties of Bonsai and flowers such as Rex Begonia, Cockscomb, Spathiphyllum, Poinsettia, Impatiens, Gloxina, Carnation, Ixora were found inside the Glass House.
Hundreds of sprinklers have been used to protect the flowers from wilting. The flowers will be changed on October 16, said Roopa, an official, Department of Horticulture.
A replica of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar decorated with the attractive flowers and a floral sculpture of environmentalist Salu Marada Thimmakka were also on display. A number of visitors were found clicking photos near the flower replica of Hampi Stone Chariot.
Lhamo, a Tibetan visitor, who was visiting the flower show for the second consecutive year said, “It is very nice and arranged in a well manner”. Nagashree, from Ramakrishnagara said that flower show must highlight the concept of Mysore heritage and culture.
Visitors from Bengaluru, Keralam and Kollegala were among the visitors on the first day of the flower show on Sunday.
Lingambudhi Park
Meanwhile, the Lingambudhi Botanical Garden in Mysuru also hosted a spectacular flower show to attract the visitors.
District in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah inaugurated the flower show at Lingambhudhi Park on Sunday evening. While the entry gate has been decorated with artistic display of an elephant, traditional Indonesian art of weaving coconut palm known as Janur art was also on display near the entrance.
Bamboo made products and flower pots were a special attraction of the show. Thermocol art work depicting Chavundaraya’s Basadi and Bahubali have also been erected to convey the message of peace, non violence and simplicity.
