The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of activities for Monday, October 26, 2026, including a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), the commissioning of its newly acquired national secretariat in Abuja and the inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC).
The activities, scheduled to take place at different venues in the Federal Capital Territory, will also feature the presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s candidates and a dinner following the inauguration of the campaign council. Blueprint reports
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the party said the programme would begin with the NEC meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the JD Vance Centre, opposite A-Class Park, Kashim Ibrahim Way, Maitama, Abuja.
The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., said admission to the meeting would be strictly by invitation, with attendance restricted to members of the National Executive Committee.
The party’s new national secretariat in Jabi, Abuja, is scheduled to be commissioned at 2:00 p.m., while the inauguration of the National Campaign Council and presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates will commence at 5:00 p.m.
The NDC said attendance at the campaign council inauguration would be limited to members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the party’s presidential candidate and running mate, governorship candidates, and National Assembly candidates.
The announcement brings together three major party activities within one day, covering internal executive deliberations, the formal opening of its national secretariat and preparations involving its campaign structure and candidates.
NEC meeting to begin activities
The National Executive Committee meeting is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the JD Vance Centre in Maitama, Abuja.
According to the statement, participation in the meeting will be restricted to NEC members, with admission granted strictly by invitation.
The NEC is a key organ within a political party’s organisational structure, providing a forum for executive-level deliberations on party administration, internal coordination and political direction.
However, the NDC’s statement did not disclose the specific issues to be discussed at Monday’s meeting or provide an agenda for the session.
The party also did not announce whether resolutions from the meeting would be made public after the deliberations.
The restriction on attendance indicates that the session is intended for the designated members of the committee rather than a general gathering of party members or supporters.
The meeting will therefore open the day’s programme before the party moves to the commissioning of its new national secretariat and the subsequent inauguration of its campaign council.
New national secretariat to be commissioned in Jabi
The commissioning of the NDC’s newly acquired national secretariat in Jabi, Abuja, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
The development forms the second item on the party’s programme, coming four hours after the scheduled commencement of the NEC meeting.
A national secretariat provides a central administrative base for a political party, serving as a point of coordination for its national leadership, organisational activities and communication with members across the country.
For a party operating at the national level, such a facility can provide a location for official meetings, administrative work and coordination among its various organs.
The NDC described the property as its newly acquired national secretariat but did not provide details about the acquisition, the cost of the facility, its size or the officials expected to perform the commissioning.
The statement also did not indicate whether the secretariat had previously operated from another location or whether Monday’s event would mark the beginning of administrative activities at the new facility.
Nevertheless, the commissioning is one of the three principal activities announced by the party for the day and will precede the inauguration of its National Campaign Council.
Campaign council inauguration scheduled for 5pm
The inauguration of the National Campaign Council is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Monday, alongside the presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s candidates.
The NDC said the inauguration would be followed by a dinner, although it did not provide further details about the venue for the evening programme or the expected duration of the activities.
The National Campaign Council is expected to provide a structure through which the party can coordinate its campaign-related responsibilities. Such a body typically brings together party leaders and candidates to facilitate communication, planning and the organisation of campaign activities.
However, the statement did not outline the council’s membership beyond specifying the categories of people permitted to attend the inauguration.
It also did not disclose the names of the officials who would lead the council, the particular responsibilities assigned to its members or the timetable for its subsequent activities.
The inauguration nevertheless marks a distinct item in Monday’s programme, bringing together designated party officials and candidates at the national and state levels.
The party’s decision to hold the inauguration alongside the presentation of Certificates of Return also places the formal recognition of its candidates within the same programme.
Certificates of Return for party candidates
The presentation of Certificates of Return will form part of the 5:00 p.m. event, according to the statement.
The certificates are intended to be presented to the party’s candidates, although the NDC did not identify the individual recipients or specify the number of certificates to be presented.
The statement listed the presidential candidate and running mate, governorship candidates and National Assembly candidates among those permitted to attend the campaign council inauguration.
It did not clarify whether certificates would be presented to candidates across all the listed categories or whether the presentation would cover only some of them.
The party also did not announce the names of its candidates in the statement or provide information on the elections for which the candidates had been selected.
Consequently, the presentation is confirmed as part of Monday’s programme, while further details about the recipients and the scope of the exercise were not contained in the announcement.
Attendance restricted to designated party officials and candidates
The NDC has outlined specific attendance restrictions for both the NEC meeting and the campaign council inauguration.
For the morning meeting, admission will be strictly by invitation and limited to NEC members.
For the evening programme, attendance will be restricted to members of the National Working Committee, the presidential candidate and running mate, governorship candidates and National Assembly candidates.
The statement did not specify similar attendance arrangements for the commissioning of the national secretariat.
The restrictions set out the party’s arrangements for the two gatherings and distinguish them from events open to the wider membership or general public.
The party also did not announce whether media representatives would be granted access to any of the activities or whether separate briefings would be organised for journalists.
Party appreciates members’ support
Concluding the announcement, the NDC expressed appreciation to its members across the country for their continued support and loyalty.
The party reiterated its message, saying: “Together, we can make a New Nigeria Possible.”
