Airtel Malawi has used this year’s Mother’s Day celebrations to highlight its efforts to support women’s professional growth, leadership and workplace recognition.
The telecommunications company held events in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu on Wednesday, bringing together employees to recognise the contribution of mothers and women in the workplace.
The gatherings, held at Woodlands in Lilongwe and mirrored in the country’s two other major cities, formed part of Airtel Malawi’s broader emphasis on employee development and wellbeing.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director Aashish Dutt said the company viewed women as central to both family life and organisational success.
“Today, we celebrate the incredible women of Airtel Malawi,” he said. “A mother’s influence reaches far beyond the home; it shapes the people who shape the world. A mother is often our first teacher, our first champion, and the person who believes in us before we know how to believe in ourselves.”
Mr Dutt said Airtel sought to create an environment in which female employees could develop new skills, advance their careers and contribute to decision-making within the organisation.
The company says it continues to invest in structured learning programmes, leadership development initiatives and international exposure opportunities aimed at preparing employees for future roles.
Airtel also highlighted its approach to staff retention, saying it provides opportunities for long-term career progression within the business.
Recognition remains a key part of that strategy. Through its quarterly Atsogo Awards programme, the company rewards high-performing employees, investing more than K40 million every quarter in recognition and performance incentives.
The Mother’s Day events formed part of Airtel Malawi’s wider efforts to position itself as an employer focused on inclusion, talent development and employee engagement.
