Hundreds of young people descended on Benidorm’s sports complex for a weekend of video games, virtual competitions and sporting activities, as the coastal city combined digital entertainment with real-world action.
The Benidorm Games Event attracted children and teenagers from across the municipality and neighbouring towns, offering gaming enthusiasts the chance to compete, try simulators and meet a popular content creator.
Video games meet real-world sport
Held throughout the weekend at the Palau d’Esports L’Illa, the event used the Carrer de Pilota area and the venue’s outdoor courts to host a programme aimed at younger technology fans.
Visitors could play their favourite video games, take part in tournaments and explore simulators, while a talk by content creator Enyus provided another highlight of the gathering.
The event was organised by Benidorm Council’s Youth Department in collaboration with gaming specialist Oxygen Gaming, with support from Alicante Provincial Council.
Youth councillor Ana Soliveres praised the turnout, highlighting the positive atmosphere and the number of participants who travelled from elsewhere in the Marina Baixa area to join the activities.
She also thanked local young people for supporting the initiative, which is designed for enthusiasts of online gaming, consoles and emerging technology.
Benidorm’s growing gaming scene
The weekend’s programme went beyond virtual competition, with organisers placing particular emphasis on bringing traditional sporting activities together with esports-style entertainment.
Soliveres said the combination had attracted considerable interest, suggesting that the mix of physical activity and digital gaming had been well received by participants.
Benidorm mayor Toni Pérez joined the councillor and other local government representatives during a visit on Saturday afternoon. They spoke with young gamers and their families to hear their impressions of the event.
The gathering forms part of the council’s wider programme of activities for younger residents. According to Soliveres, the Youth Department organises at least two technology events for video game fans each year, with another taking place in the Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España.
The events have become regular fixtures on Benidorm’s youth calendar, providing opportunities for young people to share their interests, socialise and discover different aspects of gaming technology.
The latest edition continued that tradition, bringing together gaming, sport and social interaction in a format designed to appeal to the next generation of digital enthusiasts.
