Tucked away quietly between the neighbourhoods of Santos and Santa Catarina, Rua da Silva is known to locals and savvy travellers alike as Green Street (Rua Verde).

Unlike its famous sibling, Pink Street, down by the waterfront, its name doesn't come from a coat of coloured paint on the asphalt. Instead, it is all about the living plants.
A few years ago, residents and local business owners decided to transform their neglected street into an organic community project.
Where trash once sat by empty door frames, hanging flower pots, cascading vines, and lush greenery now overflow from every single balcony and storefront. It even features an unconventional little street library where visitors can swap books.
You won't need more than ten minutes to stroll from one end to the other. The grassroots energy behind it is truly inspiring.
