SEOUL, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Friday visited Chung-Ang University in Seoul, his alma mater, and met with students, a presidential spokesperson said.
Lee attended a ceremony marking the school's 110th founding anniversary, at which he was named the recipient of its first-ever prize for special contributions, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said.
Delivering a speech, Lee highlighted the cherished lessons he learned during his university years, particularly about the 1980 Gwangju democratization movement, as well as the importance of solidarity and learning, according to Kang.
After the ceremony, Lee met with students and received a university jacket and a mascot doll as gifts before touring the campus with them, the spokesperson added.
Working as a child laborer, Lee earned his middle and high school diplomas through the alternative academic qualification system rather than attending regular classes before entering Chung-Ang University to study law.
