Election Observers Set for Grenada’s Vote

OAS Mission Confirmed

The Organization of American States has formally agreed with Grenada to deploy an Electoral Observation Mission for the Nov. 5 general election. The privileges-and-immunities agreement was signed in Washington on Oct. 23 by OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin and Grenada’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, Ambassador Tarlie Francis.

The mission will be led by former Saint Kitts and Nevis ambassador Sherry Tross. The OAS said the mission will observe the election and later issue recommendations on Grenada’s democratic institutions and electoral processes.

This will be the organization’s ninth electoral-observation mission in Grenada. The OAS has monitored elections in the country since 1984.

Election Mechanics

Grenadians vote Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, with polls open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time. That is 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.

All 15 elected seats in the House of Representatives are contested. A party needs at least eight seats to form a majority government.

Forty-six candidates were officially nominated across the 15 constituencies on Oct. 15. Police officers will vote early on Monday, Nov. 2.

Parties And Leaders

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell leads the ruling National Democratic Congress, which won nine seats in the June 2022 election. The main opposition New National Party, led by Emmalin Pierre, won six seats.

Pierre succeeded longtime NNP leader and former prime minister Keith Mitchell in December 2024. This is her first general election as party leader.

Former foreign affairs minister Peter David leads the Democratic People’s Movement, which was launched in November 2025. The NDC and NNP are expected to contest all 15 constituencies, while the DPM is reported to be contesting nine.

Campaign Notes

NNP leader Emmalin Pierre told supporters at the party’s “Better Grenada” rally at the National Stadium near St. George’s to remain focused until election day. She said Grenada would then see “a new government.”

The NNP’s reported central economic proposal is to reduce the corporate-tax rate from 28% to 25%. Prime Minister Mitchell has expressed confidence in an NDC victory and rejected expectations of a hung Parliament.

The most closely noted constituency contest is St. Andrew South East, where Pierre faces NDC Education Minister David Andrew. Pierre defeated Andrew there by approximately 230 votes in 2022.

Regional carrier SVG Air has scheduled additional election-day flights connecting St. Vincent, Carriacou and Grenada. Reported services on Nov. 5 include St. Vincent to Carriacou at 8:00 a.m., Carriacou to Grenada at 8:45 a.m., and Grenada to Carriacou at 9:20 a.m.

What It Means for US Readers

For U.S. readers tracking Caribbean politics, the OAS observation mission adds an independent layer of scrutiny to a closely watched election. The OAS is a Washington-based regional body that has monitored Grenada’s elections since 1984.

Polling hours translate to 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, Nov. 5.

What Is Not Known

No current public poll from a named institute has been reported, so there is no verified percentage estimate of the NDC, NNP or DPM vote or seat totals. No live prediction-market price or probability has been identified.

The OAS mission’s staffing, field deployment and first public assessment timetable have not yet been reported. The official timing and format of the results announcement also remain unspecified.

A High Court claim concerning the electoral process is pending, but the available reports do not state the claim’s precise relief sought, hearing date, or status. The final certified candidate list and the number of constituencies in which the DPM will ultimately mount serious campaigns remain unclear.
