The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state council, and the Nigerian Army’s One Division have pledged to strengthen collaboration in addressing security challenges and sustaining peace in Kaduna state and the North-west.
The commitment was made when the deputy director, Army Public Relations, One Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, paid a courtesy visit to the Kaduna state council of the NUJ to strengthen relations between the military and the media.
Abdullahi, who recently assumed duty as deputy director, Army Public Relations, said his decision to visit the NUJ was informed by the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship with journalists, whom he described as critical stakeholders in promoting peace and security.
He stated that although his area of responsibility covered Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states, Kaduna remained his host state, making it necessary to establish a strong working relationship with the union.
Her said the media plays a critical role in both wartime and peacetime, particularly in communicating the achievements of security agencies and educating members of the public on their roles and responsibilities in building a peaceful society.
“The importance of the media is very critical in both war and peacetime. Now that we are in a period of relative peace, the media is very important because it is the media that consolidates the gains achieved by other sectors,” he said.
