Restrictions affecting Starlink connectivity for Ukrainian users of the military “Starshield” package were detected overnight, complicating logistics and drone operations, sources in Ukraine’s Defense Ministry told Kyiv Post on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Preliminary information indicates that users reported the restrictions affecting connections at speeds above 160 kph (100 mph), with officials working to establish what caused the restrictions.

The sources added that the speed threshold was still being verified. They then said that if proved, the disruptions are significantly complicating military logistics, unmanned systems operations and medium-range strike missions, according to the sources.
Separately, an advisor to the president. Serhii Beskrestnov, known as “Flash,” confirmed the loss of connectivity for users of Starshield on Telegram on Wednesday morning.
Beskrestnov said Ukraine’s defense forces had received no advance warning and that several missions had been disrupted.
He also suggested the restrictions were linked to the current political tensions between Kyiv and Washington. That assessment was not confirmed by the Defense Ministry sources, who said the cause remained under investigation.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha recently said at the Warsaw Security Forum that intelligence sharing between Ukraine and the United States was continuing despite those tensions, but the issue of satellite connectivity restrictions now being investigated had not surfaced at that time.
