Cognizant has launched AI Nexus, a modular operating layer designed to help enterprises monitor AI expenditure, assess the quality of AI-driven work and measure business outcomes across teams.
The platform combines five capabilities covering AI-assisted workspaces, workflow automation, spending visibility, quality assessment and AI model selection. Cognizant said enterprises could adopt the capabilities independently or together, with the system designed to run within their own environments.
The launch comes as businesses face challenges in translating AI investments into measurable returns. Cognizant cited its research showing that two-thirds of Global 2000 leaders had yet to demonstrate measurable productivity gains from AI, while one in four had paused or abandoned deployments.
A separate Cognizant survey of 250 FinOps leaders found that 72% of organisations had exceeded their AI budgets in the previous 12 months, with 16% overshooting by more than 25%. The survey also found that 97% of organisations had experienced an AI agent session escalating beyond expected cost or activity, while 36% said the impact was material.
“Many enterprises have already made their AI commitments. What boards and finance leaders need now is evidence: what that spend returns, who is accountable for it and how to get more from every dollar,” said Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant.
The five components of AI Nexus include Engage, a governed workspace for engineers, analysts and business leaders; and Orchestrate, which is designed to convert business processes into AI-driven workflows. Reveal tracks AI consumption and expenditure against projects and outcomes, while Coach evaluates AI work and helps establish consistent practices. Route selects AI models based on factors including quality, cost and control, drawing on commercial, open-weight, smaller and self-hosted models.
Cognizant said the platform is designed to provide each AI specialist with a distinct identity, permissions and memory, while maintaining audit trails for workflows. Human approval would remain in place for critical decisions, compliance checks and customer-facing actions. The company said enterprises would retain control over their data and processes by running the platform within their own environments.
Cognizant also said it was using AI Nexus internally before offering it to clients. The company attributed some challenges in moving agentic AI deployments into production to insufficient enterprise context, rather than limitations in the underlying AI models.
