BEIJING: Chinese singers Huang Zitao and Xu Yiyang announced yesterday that they have become parents.
Xu posted several photos on Weibo showing her on holiday with her friends and her 33-year-old husband, the former EXO member.
Two of the photos show a silhouette — believed to be Huang and the 29-year-old Xu — holding hands with a toddler as they watch the sunset on a beach.
She wrote in the caption of her post: "With the sunset spreading across the sea, those whom I love are all by my side."
The photos appear to confirm rumours that have been circulating on Chinese social media since 2024, after the couple made their relationship public on Weibo that July.
The rumours began in August 2024, when an internet user claimed to have spotted Huang and Xu at a hospital in the United States for a prenatal check-up.
Huang also proposed to Xu on an episode of the Chinese variety show Dare or Not that month.
By December 2024, the couple had officially registered their marriage, but pregnancy rumours resurfaced shortly after when Chinese paparazzi caught Xu shopping for a baby cot.
The speculation culminated in June 2025, when paparazzi spotted Xu mother carrying a baby into their home, seemingly confirming the couple had welcomed their first child.
Following reports of the baby, rumours began to spread on social media alleging that the child was born via surrogacy, which is illegal in China.
The couple's agency swiftly issued a statement clarifying that the pair had broken no laws, while condemning the paparazzi for invading Xu's mother's privacy.
But fans and social media users noted that the agency's statement never actually denied that the baby was theirs.
