The Tamil Nadu Police have made arrangements to handle monsoon-related emergencies, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) equipped to carry out rescue and relief operations, Director-General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a welfare programme organised under the Kaaval Kudumbam scheme at the Avadi Police Commissionerate, Mr. Aggarwal said the police had coordinated with other government departments to ensure swift and effective response to emergencies.
The SDRF had been provided with the necessary equipment and would be deployed wherever required. The police would also address pending issues concerning food allowances for personnel, he said.
Earlier, Vanitha Aggarwal, chairperson of the Kaaval Kudumbam scheme, inaugurated a day-care centre at the S.M. Nagar Police Quarters in Avadi. The facility is aimed at providing a safe environment for the children of police personnel.
A special medical camp was also organised at the S.M. Nagar Police Convention Centre. A medical team from Apollo Hospitals conducted general health check-ups and examinations for heart, lung, vascular, and eye health.
Around 500 police personnel and their family members benefitted from the camp.
