One of Faro’s best-loved traditions is back. The centuries-old Feira de Santa Iria (Santa Iria Fair) opens today (October 15) at Largo de São Francisco, bringing 11 days of shopping, traditional food, fairground rides and entertainment to the Algarve capital.
Running until Sunday, October 25, the popular annual event promises something for all ages, with free admission throughout.
Organised by municipal company Ambifaro, the fair is one of the region’s longest-standing traditional events, attracting residents and visitors who return year after year to enjoy its lively atmosphere.
The fairground will once again be filled with stalls selling everything from clothing, handbags and footwear to ceramics, toys, handicrafts and other traditional products.

Food is another major attraction, with visitors able to indulge in Portuguese fairground favourites such as farturas (traditional deep-fried dough pastries), roasted chestnuts, nuts, caramelised treats and a variety of street food.
For those seeking a little more excitement, there will be fairground rides and attractions for children and adults, making it a popular outing for families.
Beyond the entertainment, the Feira de Santa Iria remains an important part of Faro’s cultural identity, combining centuries of tradition with local commerce and community life.
