Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has resumed training with Eteri Tutberidze’s team, a source told the Russian state news agency TASS. There had been no official statement on the matter as of the time of publication.
Valieva, 20, trained under Tutberidze for years, setting world records in the short program, the free skate, and the combined score of both programs. She was considered one of the top contenders for medals heading into the 2022 Winter Olympics. During the Games, one of Valieva’s doping tests came back positive. She won gold in the team event but left the individual competition without a medal.
In 2024, Valieva was still disqualified for four years over doping, and the results of Russian figure skaters’ performances in the team event were revised. In 2025, Valieva and Tutberidze ended their partnership, and Svetlana Sokolovskaya became her coach.
In January 2026, Valieva resumed her career after her disqualification ended (calculated from the date the violation was recorded) and even obtained neutral athlete status. But in September, the International Skating Union (ISU) revoked that status.
