NGIP Agmark agronomists Elizabeth Pisiai and Luke Kara last week conducted a three-day agronomy training and awareness program for cocoa farmers in Kopii Constituency, Siwai, Bougainville.
The team was accompanied by BACRA South Bougainville Officer Jeffry Kara. Farmers from Korikunu, Ruaku, Konga, Mura, Hiruno, Hari and Pamosi wards took part in the training.
Organisers said the farmers were enthusiastic and eager to learn. Key topics covered included BACRA rules and regulations, cocoa seed pre-germination, Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM), cocoa block management, post-harvest management and cocoa quality processes.
NGIP Agmark made special mention of the Member for Kopii Constituency, Kenneth Peniai, for his support with logistics and assistance to both the agronomists and participating farmers.
It was particularly encouraging, the organisation said, that Hon. Peniai attended the full three days of training alongside his people, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to supporting cocoa farmers and agricultural development in his constituency.
Farmers greatly appreciated the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skills. NGIP Agmark said it is proud to continue supporting cocoa-growing communities across Bougainville through practical training, farmer engagement and agronomy support.
“Working together for better farms, better cocoa and better livelihoods,” the organisation said.
