The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued Yellow Level 2 warnings for damaging winds and waves in parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, October 20, warning of possible disruption to beachfront activities, small harbours and ports.
The warnings are expected to affect the province’s north coast and extreme north-eastern areas, mainly during the morning.
The weather service said damaging winds and waves along the north coast could cause localised disruption to beachfront activities and operations at small harbours and ports.
A separate warning for damaging interior winds over the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal highlights the risk of localised damage to settlements, difficulties for high-sided vehicles travelling along vulnerable routes and runaway fires.
Extremely high fire danger in three provinces
SAWS has also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions in parts of the Northern Cape, Western Cape and North West.
The affected areas are:
Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality in the Northern Cape.
Central Karoo District Municipality in the Western Cape.
Moretele Local Municipality in North West.
Residents in these areas should remain alert to fire risks and follow local fire-safety guidance.
