INCHEON — Incheon will step up enforcement against private vehicles that illegally use bus-only lanes in city center areas. Even briefly pulling into a bus lane will be subject to penalties, the city said.
The city will conduct an intensive crackdown on bus lane violations along major roads for eight days, excluding weekends, from the 19th to the 28th of October.
Enforcement will focus on areas around subway stations, large shopping centers, bus terminals and traditional markets — sites that draw heavy foot traffic and generate frequent congestion and complaints. The city plans to deploy enforcement personnel along those stretches to check for vehicles using the lanes illegally.
Bus-only lanes are restricted to route buses and other approved vehicles. Passenger cars and other ordinary vehicles are barred from entering or driving in the lanes during designated operating hours, even momentarily, and violators face fines.
Alongside the crackdown, the city will provide on-site guidance to encourage drivers to follow the rules.
"Bus-only lanes are space set aside so residents can use public transit smoothly," said Han Chang-hyun, head of Incheon's taxi transport division. "We will strengthen inspections, focusing on stretches where violations are frequent, to secure safe and smooth traffic flow."
