The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria is seeking strategic partnerships and investments to reduce Hajj costs and improve the management of pilgrims’ funds.
The NAHCON Chairman, Amb Ismail Abba Yusuf, made this known while participating in the 8th International Hajj Fund Forum 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he advocated digital transformation and stronger collaboration among Hajj institutions.
The NAHCON chairman, as contained in a statement on Thursday by the commission’s Head of Information and Publications Division, Shafii Mohammed, highlighted plans to expand investments in hospitality, logistics and other infrastructure within the Hajj value chain to reduce accommodation costs while ensuring sustainable returns on pilgrims’ funds.
It stated, “Under this year’s central theme, ‘Sustainable Hajj Fund Management Through Strategic Synergy and Digital Transformation,’ the forum convened global policymakers, Sharia finance experts, and institutional leaders.
“Attendees addressed the rising macroeconomic complexities affecting pilgrimage operations, escalating costs, and the critical need to preserve long-term financial benefits for future generations of pilgrims.
“Participating in a high-level panel alongside BPKH Executive Board Chief Fadlul Imansyah and other international dignitaries, Ambassador Yusuf shared critical insights from the Nigerian perspective.
“He emphasised how multi-agency alignment and robust digital frameworks can shield the Hajj ecosystem from global financial volatility.”
According to Yusuf, the future of Hajj administration depended on our collective ability to innovate.
“Managing Hajj funds efficiently is no longer just about financing the immediate next pilgrimage; it is about protecting wealth and ensuring sustainable benefits for future generations of pilgrims.
“By leaning into technological transformations and cementing strategic ties with key global partners like Indonesia, NAHCON is positioning Nigeria at the forefront of transparent and economically sound Hajj operations in line with the interests of current and future generations of pilgrims,” he added.
NAHCON Chairman said investments in hospitality, logistics and other Hajj-related infrastructure would help reduce accommodation costs while ensuring sustainable returns on pilgrims’ funds.
The forum featured addresses by Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, K.H. Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, and Vice Minister of Finance, Juda Agung.
Nigeria’s participation underscored its commitment to international partnerships and technology-driven approaches to improve Hajj fund management.
The increase in Nigeria’s 2027 Hajj quota from 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims followed Saudi Arabia’s approval of an additional 10,000 slots for the country on October 1.
The additional allocation further reflected the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
