I have long been a huge fan of sci-fi films because of their extraordinary, imaginative stories. Having grown up watching timeless sci-fi movies like Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Interstellar, I was always amazed by the creative worlds on display, whether they're wonderful or depressing. Snowpiercer, one of my favorite sci-fi films of the 2010s, features the latter, and it is now on Pluto TV.
Directed by Parasite filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, the movie takes place on a train carrying humanity’s survivors as it crosses the globe after an attempt to stop climate change accidentally creates a second Ice Age. Snowpiercer stars Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as a passenger in the train’s back cart who leads a rebellion against the oppressive, rich elite living at the front of the train. The film also stars Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt, and Ed Harris.
Snowpiercer currently has a whopping 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it a "Certified Fresh" film. Though it didn't have a massive release in North America, it was a huge hit in South Korea and ultimately grossed over $86 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. The movie also set the stage for the TV series that aired on TNT for four seasons.
Snowpiercer is a gruesome, humorous, action-packed sci-fi blockbuster. However, it isn't a mindless popcorn movie. It tells a deeper, darker story about class warfare and the lengths people will go to survive. Like Parasite, Snowpiercer has several small but meaningful details that foreshadow the sinister conspiracy that controls the train and everyone inside. This only makes watching the film a second time even more enjoyable.
Epic, thoughtful, and heartbreaking, Snowpiercer should be seen at least once by any sci-fi fan. And now, you can stream the movie.

With Bong Joon Ho driving this film, it is a sci-fi thrill ride unlike any other.
