This game lets players become the universe – just $1.49 for the first time on Steam

What exactly Everything is isn't particularly easy to explain. Essentially, players can take on virtually any form of existence imaginable. The journey might begin as an animal roaming a vast landscape, only to continue shortly afterward as a tree, a rock or even an entire galaxy. There's no traditional storyline. Instead, the game explores how the different things in the universe are connected. Everything is currently 90% off on Steam until October 23, bringing the price down to just $1.49 from its usual $14.99. According to SteamDB, the offer marks a new all-time low. The previous maximum discount was 87%.

In terms of gameplay, Everything may initially leave players scratching their heads. That's because there isn't really a specific objective. Instead, the focus is on constantly shifting perspectives: Players can explore everything from an ordinary meadow down to microscopic habitats or head in the opposite direction and venture into outer space. The open world is procedurally generated, with no traditional level boundaries or predetermined path to follow.

Beyond exploration, players can exchange thoughts with other beings, dance together or create more members of their own species – including adorable baby houses, for example. Original recordings of British philosopher Alan Watts, who explores questions surrounding life, consciousness and existence, create a particularly distinctive atmosphere. Those who would rather sit back and relax can even hand over control entirely to the game and watch the universe unfold like an endless documentary.

Gaming publication Digital Chumps was particularly impressed by the unusual gameplay concept and philosophical depth in its review. Although there are no traditional objectives or real challenges, exploring different forms of existence reportedly becomes surprisingly captivating. The reviewers also enjoyed Alan Watts' lectures. However, the abstract gameplay concept won't appeal to everyone, especially since constantly switching between different forms of existence can become rather repetitive over time. Ultimately, the publication awarded the game 8 out of 10 points.

Everything has also been well received on Steam, with 83% of more than 3,800 user reviews being positive. On Metacritic, the game has a Metascore of 78 and a User Score of 7.1.

Everything should be particularly appealing to players who enjoy experimenting and exploring without fixed objectives. Those looking for action and traditional challenges, on the other hand, probably won't get much out of its unusual concept. On the Steam Deck, Everything is rated "Verified" – meaning the universe can also be explored comfortably from the couch.

As a child in the 90s, my Gameboy was my steady companion. After school, the PlayStation was fired up. When I finally got my first PC, I was completely hooked. My passion for gaming has never waned since. For me, writing for Notebookcheck means reporting on topics that are really close to my heart - in addition to gaming, I also like to write about e-mobility, photovoltaics and innovative gadgets. When I'm not sitting at my computer, I'm probably on water rescue duty on the Baltic coast or trying to counteract the downsides of my geek life - namely sitting for long periods - at the local swimming pool.
