(ANSA) - ROMA, 13 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to Albania, Marco Alberti, met with the new Albanian Minister of Health and Welfare, Klodiana Spahiu. The discussion centered on bilateral cooperation in health and healthcare, which is included among the strategic sectors of the G2G agreement signed in Rome last November. They reviewed the progress of projects supporting Albania’s public and private healthcare systems, with a particular focus on neonatology, geriatrics, diagnostic imaging, and oncology. At Minister Spahiu’s initiative, new opportunities for collaboration were also explored, both at the multilateral and bilateral levels, with the potential involvement of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), based in Tirana. “Health and healthcare are key factors for the country’s growth and development,” stated Ambassador Alberti, “as well as sensitive and important areas for the negotiations on Albania’s accession to the EU.” “The underlying idea of our strategic cooperation,” the diplomat continued, “is not merely to support specific projects in the health and healthcare sectors, but to promote a systemic and cross-sectoral approach centered on individual well-being and aimed at integrating diverse knowledge and perspectives.” In thanking Italy for its strong collaboration, Minister Spahiu also expressed her appreciation for inter-university cooperation in the sector, as well as for the presence of Italian pharmaceutical companies in Albania.
