PUTRAJAYA: The RM50 monthly MyKommuter50 pass for KTM Komuter services is expected to be available from Dec 1, or by Jan 1 next year at the latest.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the pass would be open only to Malaysian citizens, who could register using their MyKad and enjoy unlimited rides for 30 days.
"Firstly, the requirements are simple. Applicants must be Malaysian citizens.
"They can use their MyKad, just as we do for Prasarana's My50. They only need to use their MyKad to register and obtain the pass," he told a press conference today.
Loke said the ministry hoped to introduce the pass after the Budget was approved by Parliament at the end of November.
He said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) was fine-tuning the implementation, including the ticketing system, to make it easier for passengers to obtain the pass.
"We want to make things easier for passengers and will look at the ticketing system with KTMB.
"If possible, it would be even better to make it digital. So, we are working on this with KTMB, but it will take some time," he said.
Loke said it had previously been difficult to introduce the pass without allocations and approval from the Finance Ministry, as KTM Komuter services covered longer distances and had higher fares.
He said the government also planned to improve KTM Komuter services, including putting 12 new train sets into operation in the northern sector as early as February next year and gradually increasing train frequency in the Klang Valley.
