Charlie Becker caught nine passes for 165 yards on 18 targets against Ohio State on Saturday, and once the Buckeyes had closed out a 19-15 win in Bloomington that ended Indiana’s 22-game winning streak, the Hoosiers receiver went looking for Ryan Day.
“Charlie Becker just played out of his mind today,” Day said after the game.
Becker’s reason for finding Day dated to Dec. 6, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Indiana beat Ohio State 13-10 that night for its first Big Ten title since 1967, and Becker’s 33-yard catch on third-and-6 with 2:41 left helped close it out. On the stage afterward, he threw up the “O-H” with his arms, then followed it with a middle finger and what looked like a mouthed “F-U” toward the Fox camera.
The clip spread fast and stayed attached to Becker through Indiana’s run to its first national title.
It was a long way from his first trip against the Buckeyes in 2024, when his only mark on the box score in Columbus was his first career tackle on special teams.
Day was asked about the rematch at his Oct. 14 news conference and kept the focus on the current season.
“I don’t think anything that happened last year has anything to do with what is going on this year,” Day said.
“Certainly, Becker has made some big-time plays in big-time moments, and Marsh is playing as good as anybody right now. This is a huge challenge for our secondary,” Day said that same day of Becker and fellow receiver Nick Marsh.
Charlie Becker found Ryan Day right after the game to apologize for his O-H-F-U last year on stage at the Big Ten Championship game.

What Becker told Ryan Day after the final whistle
Becker walked up to Day on the field right after the game, and NBC4 cameras caught the exchange.
“That was uncharacteristic of me. I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and I’m sorry to you and Ohio State,” Becker told Day in footage NBC4 Columbus reporter Joe Nugent posted to X.
Becker’s father, Dave, played linebacker for the Buckeyes in 1995, a connection Nugent pointed out alongside the clip. The gesture in Indianapolis was aimed at the program his dad suited up for, and the apology went to the man who now runs it.
Becker picked about the least comfortable setting available to him: his own home field, right after a defeat that cost Indiana its unbeaten start and its streak, face to face with the coach whose fan base he had mocked on live television.
The two programs could see each other again in Indianapolis in December. Indiana’s path back there starts with a noon ET trip to Michigan next Saturday, while Ohio State has a bye before visiting USC on Oct. 31.
