KUALA LUMPUR: An inaugural golf tournament at The Els Club Desaru Coast in Johor raised RM15,000 for the Breast Cancer Support Group Johor Bahru, with organisers planning to make the event an annual fixture.
Organised by Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, the Golf Classic was held from Sept 25-27, bringing together 120 golfers, partners, influencers and guests.
The tournament's main competition featured an 18-hole, two-person scramble on the Ocean Course, designed by four-time Major champion Ernie Els.
Participants also took part in several on-course challenges, including Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive competitions.
The RM15,000 contribution was made under the hotel's annual PINKTOBER campaign, which promotes breast cancer awareness and supports patients and survivors.
Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast general manager Murray Aitken said the encouraging response to the inaugural tournament had laid a solid foundation for its continuation.
"Desaru Coast has the golf product, the resort experiences and the accessibility to develop this into a strong recurring event, while giving us another platform to support causes that matter to our community," said Aitken.
He added that the fundraising achievement made the debut particularly meaningful.
The organisers have confirmed that the Golf Classic will return in 2027, with additional golf events also being planned throughout the year.
