A building that housed a longstanding Safeway in Sherwood Park is set to welcome two new businesses, including a gym.
The grocery store on Wye Road at 985 Fir St. in Sherwood Park was closed last March and has left many curious about what could be done with the large building.
Looking at the First Capital REIT brochure for Village Market, the area where the former Safeway is located, the largest space in the building will be occupied by Evolve Strength, at nearly 31,700 square feet.
Daily Hive spoke with Judee Orfino, Senior Leasing Manager at First Capital REIT, who told us that the gym takes possession of that unit on Nov. 1, 2026, and will have six months to build it out, adding that “everything is ready for them to get moving.”

Orfino also revealed that the second unit space, approximately 12,655 square feet in size and adjacent to Evolve, will be filled by CEFA Early Learning, a daycare that has been in possession of the space since June and is slated to open in early January 2027.
It’s just one of numerous changes in the retail and development landscape in Sherwood Park. The massive L’OCA Quality Market closed its Sherwood Park location this spring, and a big shopping plaza recently announced seven new restaurants in the works off the Anthony Henday at Baseline Road and Broadmoor Boulevard.
