Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, the newly appointed Presidential Advisor on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, and former Minister of Cabinet Affairs Dr Martin Elia Lomuro are among prominent political leaders whose parties have joined newly registered coalitions ahead of the December 22, 2026 elections.
The Political Parties Council announced the registration of several political alliances on Wednesday, as political parties organise ahead of the upcoming elections.
Dr Lomuro, who was removed from his ministerial position on Wednesday after years in office, is part of the National Agenda Coalition of Political Parties (NAC) through his South Sudan Democratic Forum (SSDF).
The SSDF is among 10 political parties that make up the coalition, which brings together several political groups ahead of the elections.
Other members include the United Democratic Salvation Front Mainstream (UDSF-M), led by Francis Ben Ataba; the National Liberation Party (NLP), led by Nkurumah Waden Kelueljang; and the National Congress Party, led by Agnes Poni Lokudu.
The coalition also includes the South Sudan Democratic Alliance (SSDA), led by Paskalina Philip Waden; the United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF), led by Emmanuel Sokiri Lugor; and the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by Bona Deng.
The South Sudan National Liberation Party (SSNLP), led by James Andrea; the National Justice Movement (NJM), led by Matur Mayindi; and the Party of National Unity (PNU), headed by Dharuai Mabor Teny, are also members of the alliance.
Meanwhile, Abdelbagi leads the South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM), which is registered under the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).
He was appointed Presidential Advisor on Foreign Affairs and International Relations on Wednesday, after losing his vice-presidential position in September during the dissolution of the government.
Other parties in the SSOA include the Federal Democratic Party (FDP), led by Chang Kuoth Biochiok; the National Democratic Movement (NDM), reportedly led by Mahjoub Biel Turok; the South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMC), led by Clement Juma Mbugoniwia; and the National Salvation Front (NAS), led by Gaisma Barnaba Kissanga.
Two more coalitions registered
The Political Parties Council has also registered two other political alliances ahead of the December 22, 2026 elections.
The third coalition, the Coalition of National Alliance of Political Parties (CNA), comprises six fully registered political parties.
They include the United South Sudan Party (USSP), led by Paulino Lukudu Obede; the Communist Party of South Sudan (CPSS), led by Joseph Wol Madesto; and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), led by Albino John Lado.
The other members are the South Sudan National Party (SSNP), led by Juma Seed; the South Sudan Generation Party (SSGP), led by Jeremiah Mayen; and the South Sudan Democratic Front (DF), led by Jeach Chuol Gai in an acting capacity.
The fourth alliance, known as the National Alliance of Political Parties (NAPP), brings together four fully registered political parties.
Its members are the National United Democratic Front (NUDF), led by former Third Deputy Speaker Kornelio Kon Ngu; the National Democratic Front (NDF), led by Stephen Goro; the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), led by Adil Mayom Makuth; and the Peace Unity Reconciliation and Equity Party (PURE), led by Nyibol Diing Kiir.
The registration of the four coalitions adds to political preparations ahead of the December 22, 2026 elections, with parties joining forces as they position themselves for the upcoming electoral process.
